Default Want to use zeovit but with UV

Hi Alexander ,

I have a long time user of KZ products without the zeovit system. Have mostly used components 1,2,3,4 in conjunction with sponge power and coral snow.

But now with my new tank which is around 150 gallons, want to use the zeovit system . However, because it being tang dominated I have a 40 watt Pentair UV sterilizer that I do want to use to keep parasites of ick and other issues like dinos at bay .

Have there been proven studies that shows that UV can actually hurt bacteria that will grow on surfaces of zeolite stones or rocks ?

My understanding has been that only free floating bacteria in the water column will get impacted by the UV .

Question is if I run the zeovit reactor for 3 hours on and then off and switch the UV sterilizer on in the opposite cycle to zeovit, will it still hurt the bacteria growing inside the zeovit reactor ?

Your thoughts please ...

Regards,
Abhishek

As you already said UV, also O3 is not compatible with the system. Both does destroy bacterial and elements dosed with the system as long as they are in the water column. I have kept delicate tangs in my systems for long times, they where doing well, sometimes thy got a white spot here or there usually after working in the tang but the disappear within 2 days without causing any problem. I feed my tangs with frozen food, soaked with vitamins and aminos also with algae flakes but no nori algae.

If you like to use UV additional my recommendation is to switch it of for 2 or 3 hours while dosing. Once if everything works well you can try to shorten the time for the UV slowly step by step over a couple of weeks to see if your fish do show any kind of issues.

Hi Abhishek,

I switched to a zeovit system few months back and had been using UV for past year or so, ever since i got a Dino infestation in my tank.. I kept it running for 12 hours a day , normally at night even after switching to zeovit. I have recently taken the UV offline and havent noticed any negative effect till now except the water clarity is probably not as good as in the past..
On the other hand i did notice a significant improvement in the colors of all my sps but I am not sure if this is bcoz of UV as I also started dosing some other additives as well during this time.. so could be just the additives making the difference.
I would probably run it UV as and when needed or if I see the Dinos making a comeback but definitely not do it full time.

Attached some pics of my tank..

cheers,
karan

It is important to know if there are animals in the system already (corals / fish etc.)
