Default New Tank Build - Red Sea Reefer 750XXL

going to start a new SPS only tank and with the good experience I am having with the conversion to Zeovit on my 525 I am going to start this one from scratch on Zeovit. I will have some challenges as I am going to go with no sand on the bottom so that I can keep it very clean with high and turbulent flows. There will be no live rock in the system. I am attaching a photo of the structure that I had made to grow the coral on. In the sump I will be using a few Marine Pure blocks for bacteria growth that I am already pre-seeding with bacteria from my other zeovit system. I understand this may slow the process but I think this will be good over time.

Please see the picture of the coral mount system and you will see why I am not adding live rock in the tank.

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter. 165Gallon tank 40 gallon sump

2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter 200 gals

3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique - No

4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) - no
5. Are you using Ozone - no
6. Are you using UV - no
7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) Red Sea 900
8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels - not started
9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels - not started, plan for All 7.0, CAL 420, Mg 1350
10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.) Marine Pure blocks

11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) 4-Red Sea Reefsoec90 @15K

12. What corals do you keep - All SPS
13. Tissue color (light or dark) - none in yet
14. How long has the tank been running - new start up
15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system - Success with other system. Has the mechanism to deal with N and P that other systems do not offer
16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.) - only KZ products
17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) - NONE
18. Any present problems - no - new start
19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.). 1.026
23. Which salt brand do you use - Tropic Marin Pro Reef

Congratulations, a new tank

I think the ocean block may not be necessary. Some good live rock may be better. Maybe you can try to put it in Sump.

It is like bringing a part of the sea into the tank. It is a great help for the establishment and help of biology. If you use dry rock, it may take up to six months and it is unstable.

I would also recommend to add some fresh live rock in the sump instead of the marine pure blocks, this will have a real positive impact to the biology while the cycle and also later.

Looking forward to see the progress.

Huntindawg

I have use Marine Pure Blosck from my previous system and I think it will help a lot with a cycle. I think it will help in your situation as well. If no one will try do this we will never know if it work or not - so good luck with your start.

Any way, my advice will be add live lock even to a sump for a start as well - I did so, but later I decide to live a rocks any way.
I will be interested if you set up with no ive rock and MATURE Marine Pure Block from another sysyem, which should do same thing in my opinion, as it will be "live" too.

G. Alexander:

When I look at the zeo guide for new tanks it looks like the following for initial start:

200 total gallon system:

40ml (each day 2-3 days) Zeostart (split 2x daily ?)
16-32 drops daily Zeofood (2 weeks)
32 drop Zeobak daily first 2 weeks

Does this seem correct?

Wait for confirmation, but by my information your 200gllons (around 800 litres) initial dose for NEW system is wrong. It should be as follow:

Initial dose:
ZEObak: 40 ml (not drops)
ZEOstart: 80 ml
ZeoFood: 24 ml (not drops) I used Sponge Power instead ZeoFood

On day 4 continue with:

ZEObak: 8 drops daily
ZEOstart: 0.8 ml 2 x daily
ZeoFood: 8 drops daily

until day 14, than continue dosing as follows:

ZEObak: 8 drops 3 x weekly
ZEOstart: 0.8 ml 2 x daily
ZeoFood: 8 drops daily

After first 4 weeks
Continue dosing after the exchange as follows:

ZEObak: 8 drops daily for 10 days, than 2 x weekly
ZEOstart: 0.8 ml 2 x daily
ZeoFood: 8 drops daily

You can additional try to soak the zeovit material in RO water for 2 days before adding it to the reactor, replace the RO water one or two times per day.

Instead of 90% just replace 50% for the first time, 4 weeks later 90%.

Again, wait for confirmation, but I'm pretty sure is should be like that for your system - if it's new start.

Thanks. I did the soak of the zeolite so we are on that same page! I will wait for more confirmation as I just went back to the zeo guide and it did say drop for the zeobak and zeofood. It said ml for the zeostart. I am ok either way just get a second confirmation but thanks for the post!

Here you can find a step by step guide to cycle a fresh system which does not contain animals already:

https://www.zeovit.com/forums/showpo...60&postcount=7

Please note that SpongePower is used instead of ZeoFood.

Sponge power
Intended use: increase sponge growth
Positive results: enhance coral growth, increase tissue, increase sponge growth

Live rock
It is very important to use a fresh and bright live rock. 10% of the tank's contents are brought in by the live rock in the tank, and the next one is the sand bed.

ZEOfood7
Intended use: Increase the growth of corals and bacteria.
Positive results: reduced nitrate and nitrite

Zeo Food7 - Carbon Source with Amino Acid,(also has the ability to reduce phosphate)

Zeo SP - Also the ability to metabolize

Zeo Start3 - ZeoStart helps to breed nitrifying bacteria that basically "eat" phosphate and nitrate. Zeostart works with zeobak (bacterial food/microorganisms) and zeobak is used with zeolites.

Zeovit is a system that combines bacterial sources to help get rid of excess nutrients in the system

Then for the new phase of the cycle, the amino acid is not necessary

Food7 can be retained after the low malnutrition water quality

Zeo's basic product 4 reduces nutrition in a balanced manner, and each performs its own role/complement.

It should be like this, personal statement / idea

Also (sorry, exaggeration). Phosphate is closer to zero and stable, and it does bring more benefits to coral growth/health/polyp expansion/PE extension/element consumption.

Ok. Thanks. Just curious why they recommend the zeofood but on here sponge power is recommended? I am underway as prescribed on here.

Food is in the old version, and now Sponge Power is recommended in the current version. Zeo Food can be reused after low malnutrition water quality

Sponge Power has a positive side effect to the biology, this is the reason why it should be used to cycle a fresh system. ZeoFood does contain beside bacteria nourishing components also corals nourishing components which are not necessary at this early stage.
