Default Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and the Reef Aquarium

Greetings All !

For anyone interested in the actual science underlying some of the aspects of the various carbon-dosing product lines ...

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and the Reef Aquarium: an Initial Survey, Part I
Ken S. Feldman & Kelly M. Maers
Advanced Aquarist Online, August 2008

The marine ornamental industry conversation about the dynamics of DOC-altered coral holobionts in reef aquaria is finally beginning to evolve to the next level beyond product-specific hobbyist anecdotal opinion, and folks interested in accurately interpreting the response(s) of their coral specimens to carbon-dosing strategies might do well to integrate such information into their thought process as they search for the dosing "sweet spot" that maximizes coloration & growth.

Thnx. Gary for bringing attention to this stimulating article on organics[C] & their role with coupling corals, their symbiont algae, & coral bacteria[coral holobionts]. Maybe a Shimadzu organic-analyzer will be commonplace for hobbyist someday Bob
