Default Skimz Zar Reactors

Anyone try these out yet? Seems awesome bc it can auto dial in the proper flow rate. Also the quick dosing access on the top of the reactor seems great for directly dosing zeostart and Zeobak. Just wondering how the Flush compares to shaking of the stones.

I am interested as well. I am looking to convert my tank to Zeovite. I like the idea of this Automation as it seems simple. But since it is not the same physical action as shaking the rocks just not sure.

Just installed mine. No real review yet but seems like it works. During the flush the stones, especially the upper half moves around pretty good. I don’t like that you can’t measure the flow to validate. You also have no idea when it will do its flush from my research so far. Pretty cool otherwise.

Watch out the small stones will be "spit out" on the sump floor (the shake).
I have to vacuum them out every time I change the rock otherwise it's better than pumping that damn magnetic reactor twice a day!

Yes. Took some effort but I hand picked the stones not to include the tiny ones. Losing money as the bag is probably 15% tiny rocks in the trash.

See if you can source the Zeovit media for automated reactors, they have considerably less amount of small stones

Well, I guess it works alright. I miss seeing the mulm with my old Reactor when you shake it. With the ZAR it flushes so much flow through you don’t see it. Anytime you do a manual flush that resets the 12 hour interval. So if you want it to flush at specific time just do a manual flush then.

So for fun I took out the pump from the skimz reactor to test flow rate from the pump. I am a bit discouraged. Flow from the pump set at the highest level (1.2 L and 2x speed) gives 63 gph. Flow rate during the wash is 145 gph set at the highest level. Could help explain why my nitrates won’t budge from 5-10. I tested using Apex flow sensor and direct measure process.

The manufacturer quotes the flow rates in this guide. Their rating equates to 120 GPH at 1.2L with 2x flow. Guessing that rating is incorrect? Would be unfortunate as I just bought this reactor.
