I'm not sure about the appearance of the "brown algae" you described. Usually it doesn't disappear so quickly if it is "algae". Conversely, if classified as "bacteria", it can easily change quickly due to the environment.

Did they disappear after the lights were turned off?

Yes. By the end of the day it came back again but not as bad as the previous day. My lights are running pretty low already because I had lowered them about a month ago. At their peak the whites are no higher than 60%. The uv is 70% at its highest.

Might it be Dinoflaggellate ? They do often disappear while the dark period and grow back if the lights are switched on.
