Finally ready to start Zeovit
I have a 75 gallon DT with a 25 gallon sump that. I have a mixed reef but more Lps dominant. Here is the information to start. I have only set up the Avast reactor with 1/2 liter of zeovit rocks and water running through the reactor at approximately 40 GPH.

1. 100 Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter
2. 75 gallonsNet water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter
3. No Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
4. No Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
5. No Are you using Ozone
6. No Are you using UV
7. Reef Octopus Diablo 200sx What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
8. PO4 0.03 NO3 18 ppm What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
9. Ca 450 All 8 Mg1500 What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
10. DSB, 2 socks replaced with filter pads What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
11. Cobalt C-Ray 200 6 months old and 2 T-5s blue plus and coral plus-both replaced 2 months agoType of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
12. mostly LPS and softies, a few SPS What corals do you keep
13. Normal Tissue color (light or dark)
14. 21 months How long has the tank been running
15. Better growth and color Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
16. Soda ash and calcium via a doser, 1.5ml LPS Amino Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
17. 40 lbs 3-5 years old Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
18. Moderate amount of aptasia Any present problems
19. Acros bleach out and tissue loss Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. iDip new test strips, Hanna new powders, Red Sea 6 months old What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
21. Only have set you the zeorocks in an Avast reactor. I have not added any supplements.Present dosing, amounts and intervals
22. 1.026 salinity, temp 77.5 Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
23. Live Aquaria salt Which salt brand do you use
...so does this look acceptable and what is next?

Hello Ace, would recommend you to continue as follows:

1. The reduced ZeoVit quantity is fine, lets keep it as it is at the moment. After the first exchange you can increase the quantity of the material in two steps to 0.8 liters, also increase the reactor flow than in two steps to ~ 80 US gallons per hour. Clean the material daily. Leave the zeolite 4 weeks in the filter until you do the first change out. This is the first changing interval, others could be lengthen to 6 – 8 weeks.

2. Place 0.3 liters activated carbon in a filter sock and keep it in a passive water flow in your sump, changed every 30 days. Knead the carbon daily to keep the surface clean. Most users get perfect results with korallenzucht carbon.

3. Dose 3 drops ZeoBac daily for the first 2 weeks, flowed by a 2 – 3 x weekly dosage of 3 drops. Dose 0.3 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily (morning & evening). Dose those in front of the Zeo reactor pump while it is switched on.

Later on you could use the additional products for coral coloration. Adjust your skimmer to skim wet, keeping it clean to export as much as possible. Do a weekly water change of 5 – 10 % with a good salt.

As you do not use a PO4 absorber, UV or Ozone no additional action is necessary. All three should not be used at the same time. If a PO4 absorber is used it should not be removed all at once at the same time when starting with ZeoVit, it is better to do this over a longer period in smaller steps to prevent a increase of nutrients.

Basic water parameters looking good, try to keep them as stabile as possible close the NSW in the following ranges:

KH 6.5 – 7.5
Ca 400 – 420 mg
Mg 1250 – 1300 mg
K+ ~ 380 mg

For a nutrient poor environment K+ (potassium) seems to be a important element. I would recommend you to get a test kit for this element also, posting your results.

This is a start-up dosage which might have to be adjusted later.

Thank you so much! My only question is I have the Avast shaker reactor. How often should I have it shake and for how long? Thank you in advance.

G.Alexander 06-26-2019 03:32 AM

I have no experience with the reactor but 2 – 4 x daily does usually work well.

ACE17 06-26-2019 06:37 PM

Ok, thanks. Also my potassium is 430. I know Zeovit recommends 380-400, but I am not sure if thats too high or how to bring it down.

G.Alexander 06-27-2019 03:20 AM

No worry, just do not supplement it additional at the moment, it will not cause issues.

Ok thank you.

Just checking in. I am due to change the zeo rocks on July 25th. I dosed ZeoBack everyday for two weeks and now am only dosing twice a week. I am continuing to dose 3 ml of Zeostart twice a day. I am also adding 3-4 drops of Coral Vitalizer..something I have done for the last 8 months. I have also started to dose 1.3 ml of LPS instead of other aminos I was using. The corals seem to be doing fine. The mushrooms have shrunk quite a but, not sure why. The water is clearer but not crystal clear. Is there anything else I should start adding or doing? Thank you in advance!

[The mushrooms have shrunk quite a but, not sure why]

What kind of parameter level

The guideline is recommended
Kh 6.5~7.5
Ca 400~420

G.Alexander 07-15-2019 02:55 AM

Is your ZeoStart dosage just a typo ? Should be 0.3 ml 2 x daily.

Which ZeoVit products do you already own, please also post the actual PO4 and NO3 level.

ACE17 07-18-2019 08:03 AM

Oh no! It is not a typo! What should I do? A large water change? No wonder the mushrooms were shrinking...
I also own the following products:ZeoFood7, Bio Mate, Amino Acid, Pohl’s Xtra, K Balance, Coral Snow, and of course the LPS and Coral Vitalizer that I have been using.

ACE17 07-18-2019 07:52 PM

Just completed a 10 gal water change (75 gal dt). I did not add any ZeoStart today since I was dosing too much. should I expect any bad reaction from the corals because I used too much ZeoStart? Should I just stop dosing and if so for how long? The PO4 and NO3 after the water change were much higher that usual...PO4 is .61 NO3 is 50..I plan to do another water change tomorrow.

jacky 07-18-2019 08:03 PM

I think Zeo Start should be kept on a regular daily dose. You can dim the skimmer or some extra water to refresh.

It seems unusual, have you checked the good Ro/di water?
Or drastically stir the sand bed
Or a material or cornerstone itself has nutrients, gradually leaching

G.Alexander 07-19-2019 03:43 AM

3 ml 2 x daily is to much, just start dosing 2 x 0.3 ml daily from now on, no other action is necessary. Because of the dosing the additional products you already have it would be good to know the actual PO4 and NO3 level of your system. Please also measure the flow through the ZeoVit reactor by collecting the water from the reactor outlet for 30 seconds. Multiply its volume by 120 and you will get the exact output per hour. In your case it should be ~ 75 US gallons.

ACE17 07-30-2019 06:07 PM

Ok I just tested. NO3 is 23ppm and PO4 is .03. I am getting ready to change out the Zeo Rocks and K-Z charcoal for the first time after about 4 weeks. How much rock should I use in the Zeo reactor this time? I have also adjusted my pump for the Zeo reactor to 75 gallons per hour as you suggested. Should I plan on using any additional products? The water is very clear and the corals are all doing well. I donít have any acros though...not yet. I have killed too many. [emoji53]Thanks in advance!
