Default Advices for futur zeovit system

Hi guys,

I've reboot my tank and it's up and running since 1 month by now... Cycle is ok, no nitrates, no po4.

Zeolite and carbon are in since the begining, I will change the carbon this week-end.

Some corals are in since one week just to test and everythings seems really good by now.

I've started the tank by dosing:

- Zeobak
- Zeostart 3
- Sponge Power
- Zeofood 7 (since some days)

I'm actually thinking about the futur products I should use. I think zeolite absorb a lot of things and then I would use those products:

- AA
- A-Balance
- B-Balance
- K-Balance
- Coral Booster
- Xtra Special
- Coral Snow
- Coral Vitalizer

Should I really use A, B and K Balance? As mentionned on the products pages, do I really need to put a big amount (like 50ml/100L) the first day and then nothings during some day and after that starting the "normal" dosing?

What would you recommend? Which products are necessary with zeolite?

Thanks !

If your corals are doing fine no additional products are necessary at this stage.

Hello Alexander,

Thanks for the reply, corals seems to be nice until now so I will pick it like that.

About Zeolite and Carbon, How much should I use for a 650L system?

Should I already start weekly water change?

Thanks !

For a net water volume of 650 liters use 1.5 liters ZeoVit with a water flow of ~ 600 liters per hour through the reactor, additional 0.6 liters activated carbon passively flown.

You can start with the regular water changes if the first 4 – 6 weeks have passed.

Hello Alexander,

Still dosing:

Bak 2x/week
Food 7drops everyday
Start 1ml everyday
Sponge Power 7drops everyday

Corals are still doing well but the PE is less than before (but it's still good).

I notice since some days a slime/slimy algae on my rocks. It's not cyano or diatoms or dino, don't really know what is it but it's really clear and little brown.

What would you recommend? The corals are getting brighter and I suspect they start to need food!

I would go for:

Pohl's Extra Special
Coral Vitalizer
B-Balance
Bio-Mate/Zeozym

What's your tought?

Thanks !

Lets reduce ZeoFood to 2 x weekly, that should decrease the brown film you have mention. Have you already checked the K+ level of your system because of the decreased PE and lighter tissue ?

To have a better overview to your system can you please post some more details:

Hi Alexander,

Ok, I will reduce the ZeoFood 7. Just test my K+ level and it's around 430 (Salifert test kit).

Here is the questions/answers:

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter 600L
2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter 550L
3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique Yes, Dastaco Calcium Reactor
4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) Zeolite in ZEolite reactor and Carbon in a fluidised reactor
5. Are you using Ozone No, but I want to try it by night just to keep my ORP to 400-425
6. Are you using UV No
7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) Nyos Quantum 220
8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels both undetectable, No3 with Salifert and Po4 with Hanna
9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels Ca: 450 / Alk: 9 / Mg: 1300
10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.) Nothing special
11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) T5 14w54w DIY: 2 ABS, 2 Actinic, 10 Blue + and two LED Bar Blue pop 460nm
12. What corals do you keep SPS
13. Tissue color (light or dark) Light
14. How long has the tank been running 7 weeks
15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system Keep the natural color
16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.) ZeoBak 2x weeks (5 drops) / Zeostart everyday 1ml / Sponge Power everyday 7 drops / Zeofood everyday 7 drops
17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) 20kg of live rock and 35 kilos of branched caribsea rock
18. Any present problems Nothing special, corals are really clear, good PE but not insane during the day
19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.) Salifert:
Ca, Mg, NO3, KH, K+ / Hanna: Po4 doing test atleast every week

21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.) Salinity: 1025 / Temp: 25,5 - 26,5
23. Which salt brand do you use H2Ocean Pro

Thank you for the details, lets also reduce SpongePower to 5 drops every other day. The K His to high, lets slowly bring it down to the range of 7 – 7.5 keeping it there stabile.

Ca is a little bit high also, do you have a chance to cross check salinity with a different, accurate instrument to make sure yours is working well ?

Can you also tell which kind of carbon you use and which quantity also if you have it running in any kind of a reactor ?

It also looks your not water volume does differ from a earlier post. For a net water volume of 550 liters run 1.4 liters ZeoVit with a constant water flow of ~ 550 liters per hour.

Do the corals are growing ?

Hi Alexander,

Yes I tought the KH and Ca is too high, I've power off the Dastaco and I will re-check tomorrow :-)

I will do a 50L water change to bring those value more "normal".

I'm using the Fauna Marin carbon as I had some left, aroung 500ml in a deltec reactor.

Some corals are growing yes but the tank is really young so...

If you run the carbon active flown reduce the quantity to 50% so 250 ml would be the right amount for your system size. Replace it every 2 – 3 weeks.

Does it really change something about the carbon? (Just a question, I will reduce the amount).

As I've mentionned that I wanted to try ozone (mainly during the night I think) is it a problem?

To much carbon can remove to much elements from the water which can have a negative impact to the corals.

I have never used the FM carbon so I can not give you a real advise for it but I can tell that some kind of carbon do remove to much from the water to quick.

Ozone and UV are basically not compatible with the system. Both can be used temporary but should be switched off for 2 or 3 hours while dosing.

Oh ok ! Didn't know about the carbon, I tought the zeolite was the media which remove too much elements if over dosed..

About ozone, I'm usually dosing in the morning before going to work (~8am) and I would use ozone during evening and night: 22pm to 6am just to keep the ORP to ~450

To be honest I never measured ORP but why do you like to “control” this parameter, what is the goal ?

I don't really control ORP just to keep ORP at a level but I measure ORP to use ozone. Main reason is the water clarity but some people report better colors and PE as a result... I never used it, but I would give it a try :-)

Can you confirm me that carbon absorb more elements than zeolite?
