Default A.li's zeovit thread

Hi all
1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - 280 ltr
2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - 240ltr
3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique - No
4. Are you using a PO4 reactor - NO
5. Are you using Ozone - No
6. Are you using UV - NO
7. What skimmer are you using - Bubble magus Hero 7, capacity 700 L,air intake 520 l/h
8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels 0.1, less than 5ppt
9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels 460, 7.3, 1280
10. What filtration method do you use - zeovit filter, carbon
11. Type of light 6 * GIESEMANN T5 24W
4 of them are on.
12. What corals do you keep: 2 small bubble tip anemone, 2 acroporas about 10 cm height, a favia brain
13. Tissue color (light or dark) Dark
14. How long has the tank been running - 28 days
15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system - providing natural enviroment for sps corals.
16. Any supplemental dosing - None
17. Live rock 20kg
18. Any present problems -None
19. Problem description -NA
20. What test kit do you use saliphert KH,PH and seachem PO4. JBL NO3.
21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals - NA
22. Other water parameters and water stability - Salinity 35ppt, PH around 7.8
23. Which salt brand do you use -kent

My plan is runnig a new SPS tank.
The tank started 28 days ago with RO/DI water and zeovit method.
On day 16 added one tiny yellow clown goby
On day 20 added 2 BTA from my other tank to just experiment keeping BTA with zeovit. I'll transport them to their home soon
Finally adding 3 corals on day 26

Zeovit dosing: zeo bak 5 drops per week
Zeo start 0.25 ml twice a day
Sponge power 3 drops a day
Zeolit 450 l. water flow 300 l/h
Carbon 100g each 10 days

Now questions:
I didnt experience diatoms, just green algaee
1 Should i change zeolit afrer 4 weeks?
2 Is water flow and zeovit dosing OK?
3 should I add major and minor elements for just 3 corals or only weekly water changes?
4 when should I maximize number and lenght of illumination? Currently 4 of 6 bulbs 6 hours daily
5 Sponge power is enough for feeding corals?
6 Most important question: Which signs or parameters indicates I can add more corals and fishes?

Hi A.li

Replace 50% of the ZeoVit material if the first 4 weeks have passed, than increase the quantity to 0.6 liters total. Run your reactor with a flow of ~ 240 liters per hour with continuous flow. Next exchange will be additional 4 weeks later, than replace 90% of the material. Then you can lengthen the exchanging interval to 6 weeks.

Dose as follows after the exchange:

ZeoBac – 3 drops daily for 10 days, than 2 x weekly
ZeoStart – 0.25 ml 2 x daily
SpongePower – 3 drops every other day

At the moment the regular water changes will keep up the element balance if a well balanced salt is used as the quantity of consumers is minimal. No additional elements are necessary.

If corals start to grow, showing poly expansion and adequate coloration would be the best time to start stocking the system with additional corals step by step.

Which digital testers are more important to have for keeping sps?
I can buy 2 digital tester or maybe refractometer, (currently i have JBL PRECESION HYDROMETER), i can buy here in local market hana digital testers and/or reef octapus refractometer or chinese unknown brand refractometers, which one or two should I buy first?

I would personally use a photometer just for PO4, I would also prefer the JBL PRECESION HYDROMETER instead of a refractometer if it is used in a cylinder.

I do 30 l waterchange with kent salt weekly last week 42 l.
The problem is low KH between 4.1 and 4.5
Ca=570!!! Mg=1510 salifert
The KH tester is ok, it shows correct on new salt water.
Ca and mg testers are brand new. I didn't use any supplement and initial readings on Ca, Mg was 460, 1280 by lfs.
Is current readings possible?
Maybe Ca and Mg readings are not correct.
Whats wrong?

Have you tested your salt mixed with some RO? I think Kent mixes to 500+ Ca from memory...

Exactly, kent says:
Specific gravity 1.024-1.026
PH 8.2-8.3
Ca 550-575
Mg 1350-1450

Mine: Ca:570
Mg:1510-1520
KH:4.xxx
PH:7.7
Is there any supplement to increase KH, PH without increasing Ca and Mg (in kent, seachem,JBL or brightwell products), or the only way is daily water change with a lower calcium level salt mix?

I'd say start to use a different salt mix that is more balanced and in line with NSW such as Red Sea blue bucket, Tropic Marin Pro or Reefer's Best. Increase your kh dose. Let ca come down on its own without dosing it till it balances. Test KH daily or every second day while you make the change gradually.

KH product by seachem I think is called reef builder. Or just use baking soda and look up the recipe by searching for 'Randy's two part recipe'

I would recommend you to wait before using additional products to improve coloration until the PO4 level is stabile in the range of 0.00 to 0.02 mg otherwise those products will just darken the corals tissue additional.

How much does it normally take to such a tank with 6 fishes to reach .02 mg po4?

Any special care? Looking for dead spot? Adding wave makers to dead spots? Sand cleaning? Some product for cleaning live rocks?

Impossible to day, there are so many factors involved but it should not become a endless story with your system as PO4 is not really high.

You can support this process by regular vacuum the sand in addition to wet skimming for some time. Dosing 5 drops BioMate every other day might help also.
