Lets hold ZeoSpur and B-Balance for some time until tissue gets darker again. Then start to dose both again but with a lower quantity (50%).

Yes it does not have a lighting effect to the corals.

here is something i do not quite understand , when i remove the old 80% zeolite rocks the no3 was 2.5 but when i started running the new rocks the no3 rise to 5 . what is going on ?

is the zeolite trapping the no3 ?

I also notice that only dosing zeostart, zeolite, and zeobak my no3 is also well over 4ppm. (Red sea test kit low range goes to 4) Don't we want no3 lower than 1ppm?

Can not tell you the reason but basically a NO3 level of 5 mg has no negative impact to corals or their color from my experience.

Is it critical that the reactor runs 3 hours on 3 hours off? I missed that part the whole time I've been running it

The interval is recommended for the first couple of weeks if one starts to use zeovit on a already established reef, as long as your corals are doing fine I would keep the reactor running with continuous flow which makes processing nutrients more effective.

That's the thing. My LPS will not survive

Hi Lowefx,

You said you have 4 ppm NO3?
That's more than enough for your LPS.
I think 1-3 mg of NO3 is a very good value for bright SPS and satisfied LPS.

You could try to move the LPS to a little bit darker area?
Do not forget that they usually live in much deeper water than SPS.
In many cases this helped a lot.

regards
George

@chercm:
No, the ZeoVit material does not "capture" the nutrients.
Microorganisms settle on the material which then process the nutrients.
When you put in new ZeoVit material, it needs to be settled with organisms first.
This is why it is recommended to dose ZeoBak daily after changing the material.
Do not worry - that's normal.

regards
George

First off, thank you for your consideration and knowledge. Much of what you said, I have tried.
I have successfully had a mixed reef in other tanks using zeovit, in the past with both Lps and sps growth.
Over the last 6months, I've been losing lps one by one. Started with Wilsoni, then acans, now chalice, frog spawn and galaxia. And yes, I've tried lower light, even shadowed under a ledge, and direct feeding. That's not my issue. Something else is happening and I can figure it out.

Hi,

OK that does not sound good...
Did you try Amino Acid LPS?
In my tank the LPS directly with expansion after using this.

But beside from that:
When you have the feeling that your LPS are doing better when you run the reactor in interval mode:
did you try reducing the flow through the reactor?
and/or you could also try to reduce the amount of ZeoVit material in the reactor?

This would slightly reduce the nutrient processing.
So the LPS would have a time period to adapt better?
In the same time try LPS Aminos as additional food source maybe?

regards
George
