Looks like it is not live sand, next thing you can try is a treatment with Coral Snow and ZeoBac or CyanoClean. Another alternative is A-Balance. You can also try to replace the sand in 3 steps over the next 3 weeks. Make sure to soak it very well before using the new sand. How old is the sand ?

Not too old around 5 mnths.
I think i will better go with bare bottom. Good for maintaince too.

Personally I prefer a shallow sand bed but basically bare bottom will work also. Make sure not to remove all the sand at once, I would do this in smaller steps over a 4 – 5 week period to keep the biological changes as low as possible.
