Default How to swich to ZeoVit

Hi all,

Im in the hobby for 4 years now.
My tank was lps but now I like to try my second attempt in SPS.
My first one failed due to the lack of maintenance resulting high No3

Now I want to start again and stick to one system.

1. My tank Red Sea reefer 350 gross vol 345 lit.
2. Net volume at 70% (thats a guess) 240 lit / 63 gal
3. Red sea powder premixed solutions dosed daily
4. No Po4 reactor
5. No ozone
6. No uv
7. Skimmer Bubble-Magus C6 wet skimming aprox 0.3 l/day waste
8. Today 0/0
It used to be very high than I started my descent 😉 and through last 3 months I got it down to very low levels No3 0-1 ppm Po4 0-0,26
9. Today 1240 Mg / 9,2 Alka / 400 Ca Mg/Ca will be adjusted over 2 days desired levels used to be 1280 Mg / 8 Alka / 430 Ca throughout the ears I used to keep alka at above 10 but recently shooting at 8
10. No refugium
No miracle mud
Just filter socks, bio pellets, wet skimming, NoPoX dosing, carbon in the bag
11. Light: old style Kessil A350W-TunaBlue
The tank is Red Sea refer 350 2 light units running at full
It might be a bit poor there
Photo period might be too much it is 13h kessil
Some minor led violet and mini blue for dusk and moon.
12. SPS introduced a month ago after No3 stabilised below 2 ppm
Small colonies and frags of various acropora, frog spawn, candy coral, sun coral, zoas, mushrooms, xenias, cam, green star polyp, green tip anemone
13. The older the darker tissue
14. Tank running for 3 years having some ups and downs due to the holidays and work load. In the past loses of sps mostly to high levels of No3
I have been advised long time ago by the local store to dose KZ Coral Snow, KZ Coral snow-plus, KZ B-Balance, cyano clean for prevention, KZ Bio Mate, K Zeo Back, KZ Coral Booster
15. Because I am using so much of KZ products and I want to keep SPS now, plus I dont want to mix the systems seeing the KZ tanks I concluded to switch to Zeovit
Probably leaving 3 part dosing with Red Sea for now and Red sea salt.
16. Supplements.
Very recently I started Red Sea Coral program test and dose and since low nutrition No3 dropped below 1 ppm. I start to dose 15 ml of Red Sea Energy A+B daily In adition target feeding reefroids
17. 1x blue tang 3 years in tank 10 cm
4x blue chromis 2 years 4-5 cm
4x clown 2 years 2,5 4 cm
1x ctenochaetus tang 1 year 6 cm
1x mandarin 2 years 4 cm
Turbosnails
18. Constantly upgrading cleaning maintenance to keep No3 and Po4 in check and adjusting NoPoX dose. I did reduce dirty old rock as a part of NO3 problem
19. Im shooting for best SPS environment and good colours
20. All red sea test kits up to date
21. Doseing:
3 part in process of adjusting currently
Ca 4 ml / day
Alka 50 ml / day
NoPox 17 ml / day
Red Sea reef energy A+B 15ml/day /each
KZ Coral Booster 4 ml / day
KZ Coral Snow 4 ml / day
KZ Coral Snow plus 4 ml /day
KZ B Balance 4 ml / day
KZ Cyano Clean 4 drops / 2 times week
KZ Bio Mate 4 drops / 2 times week
KZ Zeo Back 4 drops / 2 times week
Red Sea Colour A / 1.5 ml / day
B / 0 ml
C / 1,5 ml / day
D / 4 ml / day
22. Salinity 1,025 temp 26C PH(old probe ) 8.00 8,3
23. Red Sea coral pro

I'm looking for advise on how to switch to zeovit
When to switch off bio pellets
How to dose and what
and when to switch off Red Sea adj

Thanks in advance.

Marcin

Hi Marcin

First of all I would recommend to download the dosing guide from:

http://www.korallen-zucht.de/files/z..._english-1.pdf

It contains a lot of useful information and will be helpful to get a feeling for the dosage.

First start with the basics products to decrease nutrients:

1. Place 0.6 liter zeovit in a Zeo Reactor. Water flow around 240 liters per hour. Connect the reactor pump to a clock timer and run the reactor pump with a 3 hour on / 3 hour off / 3 hour on interval. Please make sure the zeolite is not exposed to air while the pump is switched off. Clean the material daily. Leave the zeolite 4 weeks in the filter until you do the first change out. This is the first changing interval, others could be lengthen to 6 – 8 weeks.

2. Place 0.25 liters activated carbon in a filter sock and keep it in a passive water flow in your sump, changed every 30 days. Knead the carbon daily to keep the surface clean. Most users get perfect results with korallenzucht carbon.

3. Dose 3 drops ZeoBac daily for the first 2 weeks, flowed by a 2 – 3 x weekly dosage of 3 drops each. Dose 0.25 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily (morning & evening). Dose those in front of the Zeo reactor pump while it is switched on.

Later on you could use the additional products for coral coloration. Adjust your skimmer to skim wet, keeping it clean to export as much as possible. Do a weekly water change of 5 – 10 % with a good salt.

As you already have some additional products you can continue to dose:
8 drops BioMate 3 x weekly
4 ml Coral Snow Standard 2 x weekly
4 drops CyanoClean 2 x weekly

+ the products you use to keep Ca and KH.

Lets stop to dose the additional coloration products you already use.

Also reduce the NoPox addition to 50% and reduce the dosage step by step to zero over the next 4 weeks. Remove 50% of the Biopellets when you start with the system and reduce the quantity also step by step to zero over the next 6 weeks.

Basic water parameters except KH are looking good, try to keep them as stabile as possible close the NSW in the following ranges:

KH 6.5 – 7.5
Ca 400 – 420 mg
Mg 1250 – 1300 mg
K+ ~ 380 mg

For a nutrient poor environment K+ (potassium) seems to be a important element. I would recommend you to get a test kit for this element also, posting your results.

This is a start-up dosage which might have to be adjusted later.

Thank you for advise and quick reply.

That all seems like a plan to me.
I will get my kit and start conversion within few weeks.

Coral coloration will be put a side than

What about reef energy - when you recommend to stop feeding this way?

What do you think about my lighting and lighting period?

I have never used the reef energy products so I can not really tell you anything about them. If it is a coral food or a mix of other elements to improve coloration it is better to stop using them while the transfer. A lighting period of 8 – 10 hours is usually working very well, 13 hours is not necessary.

Hi, I've ordered the bits but unfortunately will need to wait for my reactor a bit longer (week maybe).

Would it make sense to start dosing :

"3 drops ZeoBac daily for the first 2 weeks, flowed by a 2 – 3 x weekly dosage of 3 drops each. Dose 0.25 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily (morning & evening). "

now before zeovit is in for the bacteria to start colonising my rock ?
and than carry on as the reactor being started.

Would that make the process any better?

I would wait for the reactor, if you like to you can already dose ZeoBac every other day and ZeoStart 2 x daily in the recommended quantities. If the reactor does arrive just start it and dose ZeoBac daily for 10 days.

Hi Alexander,

I'm well underway with the process now 2 weeks in,

Reactor set 3 on 3 off initially I’ve changed to 4on 2 off now week ago as I was worried about nitrates creeping up at

NoPoX down to 0 ml now (done gradually)
Pellet down to 50%

Nitrate raised to 0,80 (red sea test)
Phosphorate is 0.00 (milwauke photometer)

• I’m worried about my nitrate I don’t want to reduced pellet anymore for time being. Until nitrate drops down. Should I go full time with the reactor now?

Other parameters:
kh 7.8
ca 410
mg 1240
sal 1.0245 – that need some salt slightly
no3 0,80
po4 0.00
kalium 240 – will need to increase

kalium will start using K-Balance

what I’m dosing now:

ZeoBac 3 drops/dayly
ZeoStart 0,25ml/2 times dayly
BioMate 8 drops / 3 times a week
CoralSnow Standard 2x times / week
CoralSnowPlus 2x/week
CyanoClear 4 drops/2x/week
Coral Booster 4ml/2x/week
ZeoFood 8drops/2x week

I want to start:

LPS 2ml/day
K-balance 4ml/day for 2 weeks and review
AcroGlow 6d/day
X-tra 4ml/d
AminoAcid 3d/day

So fare all good.
I’ve reduced slime in the pipe work and glass due to reducing NoPoX which I’m very happy with.
But the nitrates creep up a bit.

I had one coral start bleaching yesterday!!! Now I’m not sure if that’s anything to do with the change as it is relatively new addition (2 months maybe) It was quite healthy looking at the beginning (long polyps) but gradually got worse. I did move him a bit to make him better. Finally, when start bleaching I deep it just to try and frag 3 branches) we see what will happen. I wouldn’t necessary connect that to Zeovit at this stage. Other corals doing fine.
Partly that’s the reason to introduce more food related supplements.

Skimmer since reduction in nopox and pellets the amount of skimming stuff come down but it is more concentrated more green grey colour

Questions:
1. Should I go full day with the reactor now since nitrate creep up.
2. Should I wait with further reduction to pellet for nitrates to come down.
3. Should I start to dose food related supplements

Lets keep the pellets at the moment and reduce them very slow step by step over the next several weeks. Additional keep the 3 hour on / off interval for the ZeoVit reactor at the moment.

Ton increase the potassium level I would recommend to use K-Balance Strong instead of the Standard version as it does contain more potassium ions. The coral you have lost might have something to do with the low potassium concentration. Please also check the level of your salt mix.

Make sure to increase the potassium level very slow to ~ 380 mg. If the level is high enough and if the first 6 weeks have passed and if all corals are doing fine you should be able to run the ZeoVit reactor with continuous flow which will have a positive impact to the NO3 level.

At the moment I would not dose more coloration elements for the corals.

Hi Alexander,

Ii doesn't look goo at the moment.

I'm in week 8 and after zeolite change. its full time now (last 3 days) .

but my tank going down.

My nitrates sky rocket to aprox 40.

my corals acros brown some very brown , 1 acro lost, frog spawn unhappy,

no polyps

Cyano algy on the sand bead

basically i'll blame nitrate.

pellet I kept as the nitrate was riseing so its still 1/2 to what use to be in

NoPox - no dosing but considering to start again.

The problem is all idea was to eliminate carbon dosing especially in liquid form - to stop grown in the pipes and glass.

If i'll start nopox I might as well give up on zeovit.

Please help.
Should I increase zeolitemedia?
flow is ok by the way.

in the mean time large water change going on now.
270 lit total - ill change 60 l

please help

Can you please post a full tank shot and a picture of your sump ? Please also measure the flow thought the zeovit reactor by collecting the water from the outlet for 30 seconds with a smaller container. Than multiply its volume by 120.

Additional please post all actual water parameters and your dosing regimen.
