Default Current/flow rate per hour

Hi, folks,

My tank runs stably for almost 6 months already with 1300-1400L/h flow rate and Im planning to start to get some sps slowly. But I got a problem with the micro air bubbles made from the skimmer, as my tank is totally with 160L net water( slightly less than 160L), the sump is quite small, therefore the water flows very quickly from sump to display tank then there is no enough time for the bubbles to release from water. Now I set down the flow rate( DC controller pump) as 800-900L/h, which as 60-70% flow rate as before, micro bubble problem seems to be solved.

After two days, I found the sands are a little bit dirty, some are covered with brown/green film(thinner than paper). The zeo reactor is running 180L/h with cleaning every single night at 00:00 by auto clean ZEO reactor, as usual.

Question:

Should I do nothing but just wait for its getting stable or any solution to make sure the flow rate does not effect too much to the system?

Ps:
Ca 420-440
Mg 1380-1420
KH 8.3-8.9
PH 8.0-8.3
No3= no color (Salifiert)
PO4= 0.015-0.018(Hanna)
Redox=480mv(night mode lighting), 550-620mv(day time with lighting)
Conductivity= 1.0255-1.0260
Illumination 8 hours with normal/full power, only Royal Blue at night.

I expect it is the flow from sump to display system so usually I would say 800 – 900 liters per hour are enough for your system size.

The film might be a temporary problem and should disappear soon. You might dose some CoralSnow daily if you already have the product for one week and reduce the dosage of the coloration elements temporary to 2/3.

One week running, but the brown film seems not really getting away automatically. Almost in the shinny sands/rocks, or high current places.
Any suggestions?

All basic water parameters looking relative high, have you already cross check salinity with a different accurate instrument as this is common for a elevated salinity ?

Because of the brown film, have you dosed CoralSnow already ?

Please also post your actual complete dosing regimen and the net water volume of your system.

Hi, Alexander,

The conductivity is running 1.0258-1.0260, Korallenzucht Bio Salt. With 36g per Liter water when doing water change every single time(10 days a change).

Yes, I did couple times Coral Snow 4ml/time, the water seems pretty christal clean afterwards, but the brown film seems slowly getting more and thicker. Plan to replace and do it as Coral Snow Plus, from tonight.

The high Kh, Ca, Mg, I think they should be coming from the calcium reactor, will reduce the co2 and dosing speed from now on. By the way this data is almost like the following tests during these 3 months(Kh 9.9-10.9, Mg 1380-1440, Ca 440-490).
All LPS seems fine in these 3 months, the sps just has been placed in tank since 2 weeks ago, looks good but some of them are getting white coloration some are getting jelly colors, have no idea if its running right here......

Btw, the dosing plan etc:

Bak: 1 drop/ 1 or 2days
Start3: 10ml at night, 5ml in day(1:50 diluted with RO water)
Sponge Power: 2 drops/ week
Food7: 1-2 drops /week
Coral Snow: 4-6ml, 1-2 times/ week at night

Zeovit reactor running 180L/h(flow meter actual data), no stop, selfclean 3 minutes every day at 03:00 AM.

Zeovit 0,6L, 50% changed/ 4-5weeks

Carbon: 50% changed/4 weeks

Dosing regimen is looking good, would just skip ZeoFood at the moment until you get the brown stuff under control again.

I do not think that CoralSnow Plus makes any difference compared to CoralSnow Standard. Please check the quality of your RO water and make sure it does not contain Si. Additional increasing the flow at the affected areas, vacuum the sand and add sand shifting animals are some other possibilities. Lighting spectrum can also be the reason.

Btw, this brown film is new on sands. Another photo shows the cleaner sand in the shadow part.

Should I also turn down a little lighting?
