I tried taking pictures of it but it did not come out too clear. Pictures of my tank with my phone always come out very blue.

Basically it is a clear/Grey algae that seems to have a very gel like texture. Any idea what that is? Any suggestions how to stop it. I have been removing it on my weekly water changes, but I would like to know what is causing it.

Thanks.

Can not see much on the picture, sorry. I have had something similar to your description while heavy overdosing ZeoBac a couple of years back but after reducing ZeoBac temporary to 50% 2 x weekly the stuff disappear slowly over a couple of weeks not coming back anymore.

Okay - I am currently doing 8 drops of ZB 3 times a week. Should I reduce that to 4 drops twice a week?

That is what I would try first in addition to remove the stuff manual with a brush.

This evening I saw what looks like an underwater centipede or large worm. It looked to be crawling around the slightly sticking out of the rock crevice, but it was somewhat large. I am surprised none of my peppermint shrimp have eaten it. Should I be concerned about this critter?

Thanks!

Difficult to say what it was without a picture but bristle worms are common.

Good morning,

I am still fighting brow areas on the sand and some sort of a clear (gel-like) slime/algae here and there on my rocks. I also have to clean my tank glass every other day due to cloudiness. Last week I tried something by not dosing any zeobak, but that did not help much.

I wanted to check if I would harm any of my SPS if I just stopped dosing all the additives (with the exception of zeobak, zeozyme and snow) - at least for a couple weeks. I am just afraid that the nutrients will be far too low if I do that, and I do not want to loose any SPS. My PO4 is still 0 with Hannah Checker.

Thanks for any advise!

First thing I would try id to reduce ZeoStart to 2/3. If you stop dosing all additives completely for a longer period the biology in the system will change and you might experience a increase of nutrients after some time which is difficult to get under control by just start dosing again.

Thanks for the response and advise GA!

Knowing this, I have reduced my total daily ZeoStart dosing from 1.6ml down to 1.0ml. Does that seem about right? Do I need to just monitor PO4 during this time (it has long been zero)?

As far as the rest of my dosing, below is what I am currently dosing (feel free to suggest any other adjustments).

8 drops Sponge Power - daily
8 drops ZEObak - 2 times per week
16 drops Biomate - 2 times per week
6ml Phols Xtra - 2 times per week
6 drops coral vitalizer - 2 times per week
6ml potassium - 2 times per week
4ml B-Balance - 2 times per week
4 drops Amino Acid - 2 times per week
8ml Snow - 2 times per week
1 tsp ZEOZyme - 2 times per week

Thanks for your time and response!

Nice tank, following along!
Good luck with the algae. I couldn't get rid of the brown stuff on the sand so I was syphoning out the sand when it appeared until i had no more sand left...
Now I have a bare bottom tank!

Thanks for the comment. I vacuum the sand once a week, but it appears to come back within a day or two. I am hoping the reduction in ZeoStart will do the trick here...

Happy reefing!

Hello John, you have posted some pictures in November last year showing a full tank shot. Is the quantity of corals still about the same ? I just ask because it has a impact to the dosage (coloration elements) as a more corals means more consumers. The recommendation on the bottles (coloration elements) is for heavy stocked systems with good coral growth.

GA,

Work went late and my tanks lights were off once I got home. So I was unable to take pictures. I basically have the same 20 sps frags shown in November, but they have all increases in size by roughly 50% (they were very small to begin with). What are your thoughts on my new planned dosing.?

The more I look at the sand and rocks, I feel I am just battling a very unusual looking cyano (again 0.00 PO4 and no other problems).

Thanks as always!
