Default Alkalinity

Hi I seem to be puzzled on the Alkalinity readings I keep getting. I am using a Hanna colormeter, and keep getting readings of 6.9-7.1 dkh I am adding liquid soda ash to bring my level to 8.5dkh each evening (11pm) but by noon the next day my levels have dropped back to the 6.9-7.1 range. Is this normal using zeovit? I have never in over 40 years of reefkeeping experienced this.I have a very light load of corals, 12 1.5" sps frags and a 14 head candycane.

Do the corals have increased their growth since using ZeoVit ?

Zeolite is dropping down KH. Its normal using Zeovit and is one of the reason the protocol suggest around 7.5 and not more. Other reason is because in a VLN environment you cant push the growth too much without incurring in RTN.

I made different experiences with the growth of SPS corals. I had never better growth in the past than in a nutrient poor system. Can not say much about the connection between zeolite and KH as I have not found any kind of a article which does describe the reason.

Alexander I mean that in a VLN system its necessary to pay attention on kH and calcium value as with high value you push the coral growth up too fast and the risk is RTN. I have very good growth in my tank with kh around 7 and calcium 420.

No not as of yet The system is only 45 days old and corals are only 2 weeks in the tank.

I read it again. I understand, then in the VLN, kh ca high value coral grows too fast. Is it because the high concentration of phosphate causes inhibition of calcification? So the full coral uses growth. So is the value of kh ca mg related to nutrient salt? Is it even related to the intensity of light? Or is the intensity of water flow related or related to coral color? So... why is there kh 10 kh12 sea salt? ? What is the purpose? In addition to the high consumption of kh ca mg, what else should you pay attention to? Can you please ask the teacher to explain, thank you
