I️ am going to pick up a goby and some snails this weekend. What type of snails do you recommend? I️ have had bad luck with some dying in the past and wasnt sure what type to purchase.

Trochus snails are a possibility.

I picked up a goby and a few torches snails. My phosphate is now at 0.05 and the sand and rocks are clear. I also took advantage of Bulk Reef Supplys 25% off sale on KZ products, and I have picked up a little of each additive for future use. I would like to start dosing some CV, Xtra, snow and zyme and others. Can I get your thought on what amount to dose and when. I assume I need to ease into it slowly and watch for any problems from the onset.

Thanks.

If you like to you can dose Snow and Zym 2 x weekly on alternate days:

Snow – 8 ml
Zym – 1 spoon

As long as nutrients are elevated I recommend to wait some time before starting to CV and XTra:

CV – 16 drops 2 x weekly
XTra – 8 ml 2 x weekly

My reef is now 2 months old and my phosphates are now down to 0.03. I am really happy with the results thus far. That being said, I know it is still going to take some time to see better coloration and polyp extension. Most of my SPS are showing polyps during the day, but not all. At night they all have full polyps out.

Ever since adding the goby and snails, I am having no problems with brown film. The goby is keeping my sand bed 100% clean (thank you for the suggestion Alexander).

I have been dosing Xtra and CV for the past week. Would it be okay to start using Amino or Food7? Any other suggestions, or should I leave things be for now? When do I use B-Balance?

Overall, I am very happy with the results and my corals are gowing

Can you tell which kind of corals exactly do show issues with PE while the lighting period ? Have you already checked the K+ level ?

Yes, my K+ is right around 350. I dosed 4 ml of KZ potassium tonight, but I assume it is not that low.

Most corals are very happy, but I think something or some pest is after my first coral. It just took a turn for the worse yesterday, but all others are very happy...? Perhaps the new peppermint shrimp I bought last week is eating it?

First pic below is the damaged coral. Other seem fine. I have similar corals to the first that are not showing any damage. Any ideas?

Those kind of shrimps do often nip on corals, they might be the reason.

All is well with the tank. My phosphate is at 0.0 and I am not having any issues... Colors are coloring up and grwat polyp extension. I also am seeing great coral growth.

I am currently dosing the following
:
0.8ml ZEOstart twice a day (1.60ml total per day)
8 drops Sponge Power every day
8 drops ZEObak three times a week
8ml Phols Xtra three times a week
8 drops coral vitalizer three times per week
4ml potassium three times per week
16 drops Biomate twice a week

I would like to start doing amino acid, b-balance and zeozym.

Any suggestions on how much of each?

Thanks!

8 drops AAHC 2 x weekly & 8 ml B-Balance 2 3 x weekly might be a good start, additional 1 spoon ZeoZym 1 2 x weekly.

Just a quick update. My reef is now nearing 4 months old, and all 25 frags are growing and looking healthy. Aside from the weekly battle of a small amount of brown on the sand bed - all is going well. The weekly vacuuming of the sand bed (and with the help of my goby), I am able to keep the sand 90% clean. I assume this is normal?

Here is my current dosing schedule for the last 2 weeks (thoughts are always welcomed):

Monday:
8 drops Sponge Power
8 drops ZEObak
16 drops Biomate
8ml Phols Xtra
8 drops coral vitalizer
4ml potassium

Tuesday:
8 drops Sponge Power
8ml B-Balance
8 drops Amino Acid
8ml Snow

Wednesday:
8 drops Sponge Power
8 drops ZEObak
8ml Phols Xtra
8 drops coral vitalizer
4ml potassium
1 tsp ZEOZyme

Thursday:
8 drops Sponge Power
16 drops Biomate
8ml B-Balance
8 drops Amino Acid

Friday:
8 drops Sponge Power
8 drops ZEObak
8ml Phols Xtra
8 drops coral vitalizer
4ml potassium

Saturday:
8 drops Sponge Power
8ml snow

Sunday:
8 drops Sponge Power
1 tsp ZEOZyme

0.8ml ZEOstart twice a day (1.60ml total per day)

I had this issue from time to time also but usually on the areas which do not get much light so basically it is not a real issue. What you try is to cut down Sponge Power to 2 x weekly for a while to see if that makes any difference.

As you do not have much corals at the moment (consumers) you can also try to cut down XTra and AminoAcid to 50%.

Thanks for the advise GA - I will try reducing Sponge Power, Amino and Xtra by 50%.

Happy New Year!

Default My new "Texas 210 Gallon"

I have had my tank up and running for 4 months now, and I am really happy with the results. I am no longer battling brown spots on the sand.

The only issue I have at the current time is some sort of a clear sponge like algae that appears to be growing on some of the rock. It is clear, somewhat slimy and has some white air bubbles in it.

My phosphates are reading 0.00 with the Hannah checker. Any ideas on what this is or what is causing it?

It does not appear to be harmful but more of a slight distraction from the corals. It comes off easy with a tooth brush but seems to come back.

Thank you!
