Default Light coloured dusting on glass constantly

Hi folks,

I have a constant light coloured dusting on the glass and I'm looking either for a solution, or just a better understanding on what it is and why it's occurring if anyone can help me please?

I used to have green glass but I put that down to a Start3 overdose, so instead of 0.45ml twice a day (0.9ml total) I now only dose 0.2ml twice a day (0.4ml total) - I'm not sure if that affects it?

I don't dose anything other than Start3, Bak, Coral Snow Plus, and sometimes Coral Vitaliser (I've had a lot of changes on my tank lately so getting it back to being stable on the basics before I add more products.

Thanks
Andy

How often does this happen ? IMO it is normal and a good indicator for a healthy biology. I had to clean the glass of my systems also every other day to keep it clean all the time.

If I clean the glass, there will be signs of it within a few hours. It's much better than the green build up but still seems a little excessive at present is all.

Have you already tried to reduce the ZeoStart dosage temporary to lets say 0.1 ml 2 x daily just to find out if that has any kind of a impact ? Otherwise I can not see anything unusual, another reason might be the low amount of rocks in combination without a sand bed ?

I'll give a reduction in Start a try and see what effect it has.

id not say my rock amount is too low for my stock levels tbh, and I do run a sandbed of an inch, but I guess it might be something to do with that.

Will report back after some time with reduced Start.

Thanks.

Did the reduction help? Because I too have the same problem.

Not that I've noticed so far. As soon as i clean the glass, there's still a dusting after a short period of time, then it's fully covered in a few hours - so I'm having to clean it twice a day if I can be bothered to.

Can you tell which kind of sand you have used ?

Also are the rocks you have used dry rocks or are those really live rocks from the sea ?

I have used Caribsea Seafloor Special Grade sand (dry), with Real Reef rock entirely.

I know it's advised to use live rock but that's not something I'm keen on doing personally.

Thank you I would recommend to dose 2 ml CoralSnow / 25 US gallons daily for 10 days to see if that does help in any way, otherwise I can not see a issue except the rocks. At the moment we have a similar thread about them and Georg (sps_muc) has posted his experiences with the material:

I don't want to jinx it, but today I came in from work and there was only a very light dusting of algae on the glass - have been dosing 8ml of CS since the 6th and it seems to be working well.

Oh man I've been on my second day so far, hope it works as I'm tired of cleaning the glass too.

Stick with it, I didn't notice any improvement until yesterday - might be coincidental as I did a waterchange the night before but we will see
